German companies in Asia are diversifying their markets and supply chains and exploring alternative locations in Southeast Asia. In particular, companies investing in China are increasingly pursuing a "China Plus One" strategy and are increasingly relocating their investments to countries such as Thailand and Vietnam.

However, the two neighboring economies of Cambodia and Laos are already waiting in the wings to attract more German investment. They offer liberal economic policies, various investment incentives, a young and dynamic population, low labor costs, and - in the case of Cambodia - access to a deep-sea port.

Both countries are aiming to achieve middle-income status in the coming years. Economic relations with Germany are currently focused on procurement. So far, Cambodia and Laos have mainly served as suppliers of textiles and clothing for the German market. However, both countries also offer further business opportunities, for example in the agricultural/food, energy, light industry, tourism, and mining sectors (the latter especially in Laos).

The event is organized by the IHK Düsseldorf in cooperation with the IHK Mittlerer Niederrhein and the Business Scout for Development of the Agency for Business and Development in NRW.
